The inner conversation of the soul speaking with itself
At the moment I’m reading “Meditations” by Marcus Aurelius. I like to read this ancient philosopher now and again, because Marcus Aurelius not only was a good philosopher but also a good leader. Maybe my urge to read “Meditations” again is the present reality that we live in at the moment. On a global scale it’s difficult to find a leader that, as Marcus Aurelius, actually reflects on their actions and their effect on human society. In our modern society we’re getting used to (and that’s the danger of it) global and national political leaders and rich technocrats with no thoughts of the effect of their actions – or worse – they might actually be very much aware of what they are doing and that’s why you have to practice the Art of Critical Thinking. “Meditations” is thoughts and reflections by Marcus Aurelius where he so to speak has “an inner conversation of the soul speaking with itself” and, as we would say today, is journaling about on a daily basis. The inner conversation of the soul speaking with itself is a phenomenon we know from Socrates and Dialogues by Platon. What you’ll realise when reading “Meditations” is a leader; Marcus Aurelius, who reflect on every decision and action in a context of interconnectedness between macrocosm and microcosm. What we experience leaders do today are decisions that benefit 1% and exploit 99%. Critical thinking described in “Meditations” is a matter of understanding the beauty and natural balance in the connection between the divine within every individual human being and the divine i a unified whole. That is to say live in agreement with Nature.
